Affiliate & Commercial Disclosure

The disclosure

Some links from Caseo to retailers earn us a commission if you buy. These are labelled where they appear. When you tap one, we record that the click happened so we can be paid, and send you to the retailer.

That is the whole arrangement. The rest of this page is about what it does not affect.

What commission does not buy

  • It does not affect ratings. Community averages come from what users logged. No retailer relationship touches them.
  • It does not affect search or Atlas order. A cheese with an affiliate link does not rank above one without.
  • It does not affect pairings. Editorial pairings are written before anyone thinks about where to buy the cheese.
  • It does not affect which cheeses are in the Atlas. We add cheeses because they matter, not because they are purchasable.
  • It does not buy editorial coverage. Caseo does not sell advertising, sponsored posts, sponsored pairings, or placement of any kind. There is no ad SDK in the app.

How each of those orderings actually works is set out in the Ranking & Algorithmic Transparency Notice. If any of this ever changes, this page changes first, and prominently.

How the label works

Every affiliate link carries a visible label immediately next to it — not buried on this page, and not only in a footer. The label reads “Paid link”, and it sits beside the retailer’s name on the cheese page, on web and in the app alike.

Retailers

We do not currently have any affiliate relationships. There are no affiliate links live in Caseo today and we are earning no commission from anyone. This list is read directly from the app, so if that changes, the retailers appear here without anyone having to remember to update the page.

We add and remove retailers over time. Being on this list means we may earn commission — it is not a recommendation of that retailer over another, and it is not a statement about price. Check the price yourself. Prices and availability shown in Caseo may be out of date.

Buying from a retailer

Your purchase is between you and the retailer, under their terms, their delivery policy and their returns policy. Caseo is not a party to it and cannot help with an order, a refund or a delivery.

Cold-chain shipping of cheese is genuinely difficult. Read the retailer’s shipping terms before you buy.

Business subscriptions

Shops and makers can take out a Caseo business listing. A business subscription does not buy rankings, ratings, editorial coverage, or placement in search, the feed or the map. It buys tools. What it costs and what it includes is at For cheese shops.

Users who have a connection

Caseo users who make, sell, import or distribute cheese must disclose that when they post about it, and may not rate their own products. That rule is in the Community Guidelines, and we enforce it.

Why we say all this

US law — the FTC Act and the FTC’s Endorsement Guides — requires that a material connection between a recommender and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, close to the recommendation.

We think it is also just the right way to run a recommendation product: the value of Caseo telling you a cheese is good depends entirely on you being able to believe it.
