Reporting infringement

If you believe content on Caseo infringes a copyright you own or represent, email copyright@caseo.app with all six elements the law requires (17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)):

  1. Your signature, physical or electronic.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work.
  3. Identification of the infringing material, with enough detail for us to find it — a direct link is best.
  4. Your address, telephone number and email.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn’t authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you’re authorised to act for the owner.

Incomplete notices slow things down. If something’s missing we’ll tell you what.

Consider fair use first.§512(f) makes you liable for damages, including costs and legal fees, if you knowingly misrepresent that material is infringing. A tasting note quoting a producer’s description, or a photograph of a cheese someone bought, very often isn’t infringement.

What we do with a valid notice

We remove or disable access to the material expeditiously, tell the person who posted it, give them a copy of the notice, and record a copyright strike against the account.

Counter-notice

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, send a counter-notice to the same address with the five elements required by §512(g)(3): your signature; identification of the material and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury of your good-faith belief it was removed by mistake; your name, address and telephone number; and a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, outside the US, any district where Caseo may be found) and to accepting service from the complainant.

We forward it. If they don’t tell us within 10 to 14 business daysthat they’ve filed a court action, we may restore the material.

Repeat infringers

We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. A strike is recorded for each valid, uncontested takedown; three ordinarily means permanent termination, and we may act sooner for egregious or commercial-scale infringement. Strikes removed by a successful counter-notice or a withdrawn claim don’t count.

Outside the United States

We handle notices from anywhere. Where the EU Digital Services Act applies, a copyright notice is also a notice of illegal content under Article 16, so you’ll receive our decision and reasons — see the Content Moderation Policy.

Trademark

For a username, profile or listing misusing your mark, email legal@caseo.appwith your registration details, the mark, and where it’s being misused.

Caseo’s own content

Our database, editorial writing, pairing corpus, imagery and design are ours. If you believe we have used your work without permission — a photograph, a description, label artwork — tell us at copyright@caseo.app and we will look at it properly. That includes producers, consortia and photographers.

Most of our photography is generated rather than shot; how and why is at How Caseo uses AI.
